10 Fun Facts About Smiles, Teeth, And Everything In Between
Hello, my amazing patients and devoted followers of my blog. I’d like to bring you some fun facts about your teeth and gums, which hopefully will keep you smiling longer and brighter. And that’s a great thing! See fact #1.
Smiling Is More Important Than You Might Think!
Fact #1 – Your smile is a strong point of attraction.
61% of adults admit being most attracted to someone because of their smile. Your smile is critical for people’s perceptions. A warm, beautiful, genuine smile communicates feelings that words alone cannot convey. A confident smile allows people to feel at ease, making a great first impression. People who smile more are also believed to be honest and trustworthy. By nature, we are attracted to happy people because we hope to be infected by their happiness.
Fact #2 – Your smile makes you happier.
Ven Thieh Nahat Hanh said, “sometimes your joy is the source of your smile, but sometimes your smile can be the source of your joy. Just the act of smiling alone spurs a powerful chemical reaction in the brain that can make you feel happier. Try smiling genuinely for a whole minute, and honestly assess how you feel afterwards. Chances are you’ll feel uplifted from the release of dopamine and serotonin, sparked by merely smiling.
Fact #3 – Women smile more than men.
On average, a woman smiles 68 times per day. Meanwhile, a man smiles only eight times per day. One of the reasons for that is thought to be that women tend to be more expressive, empathetic, and naturally emotional. Women tend to smile more during times of tension and conflict, trying to diffuse it and smooth out hurt feelings. Men can certainly learn from that! Meanwhile, all grownups can learn from children. Children smile approximately 400 times a day.
Your Toothpaste Matters!
Fact #4 More people prefer blue toothpaste over red toothpaste.
The same is true of toothbrushes: Blue is the most popular toothbrush color.
Fact #5 Toothpaste has been around for a while!
Toothpaste was first invented in China and India in 500 BC. China also invented the first toothbrush in the 15th Century. The brushes were fabricated from bone and bamboo and the bristles came from hairs picked from a hog’s neck. Sounds delicious! Prior to that, civilizations used twigs with jagged edges to clean their teeth.
Fact #6 Seaweed is Important For Toothpaste
Yes, you read that correctly. Often, toothpaste contains seaweed. Seaweed helps give toothpaste its consistency, functioning as a thickening agent and stabilizing toothpaste so it can be squeezed from a tube.
